First 30 Minutes
- • Move the exposed individual away from further plant contact immediately
- • Induce vomiting if the individual is conscious, not seizing, and ingested plant material within the last 30 minutes
- • Administer activated charcoal to bind unabsorbed toxins in the gastrointestinal tract
Contact Vet Immediately
- • If the individual experiences seizures, paralysis, or severe difficulty breathing
- • If the exposed individual is a pregnant animal, child, or has pre-existing cardiac/neurological conditions
- • If symptoms do not improve or worsen 1 hour after first aid administration
Prevention
- • Never feed raw or processed tobacco plant material or waste to livestock
- • Keep growing, dried, or processed tobacco products out of reach of children, pets, and livestock
- • Avoid using tobacco plant waste as compost or mulch in areas accessible to animals or children
